Josep M. Morreres

English

Josep M. Morreres (Barcelona, 1952) is a reader who writes. This condition has given him a great range of registers, that go from transcendent reflection to cruel irony, from irreverent parody to introspective stories. Frivolity and depth, superficiality and seriousness, vital optimism and rigorous analysis appear, however, in an inseparable way in his literary work. He has cultivated different novel genres; erotic, detective novels, historical, youth and, often, has combined these genres. He is one of these writers who feels that it isn't enough to explain a story, but that behind any literary work there has to be a desire to understand the human being and also an artistic aim. He is not, what you would call, a writer with his own world, the worlds that he creates in his works are the worlds of others, the worlds that come to him either through reading, observation or reflection. With all this, it is possible to find some constants in his work: an ironic distance, a compromise with truth, cultural references, preocupation for the use of language and metaliterary reflections. He is aware of his own limitation and has always aspired to perfection trusting that reality will put things straight.

He is a member of the Associació d'Escriptors en Llengua Catalana (Association of Catalan Language Writers) and Òmnium Cultural.
