Rosa Maria Esteller

Rosa Maria Esteller i Elias (Barcelona, 1945) has a degree in Philosophy, a PhD and Diploma of Advanced Studies in Social Psychology from the University of Barcelona and also a degree in French Language from the University of Toulouse. She is a secondary school teacher, writer and poet.

Although her work was neither presented nor published until 1995, her literary leanings go back to her adolescence. Her social inquietudes have influenced a good part of her writings, which reflect her longing and questing for a better world. She gives value to feelings on the basis of a positive view of life as a way of sharing with her readers her desire to foster a sense of respect for humanity and to help others to enjoy their own existence as much as they possibly can.

Notable among her published works are Cartes a Mireia (Letters to Mireia - Pirene Editorial and La Magrana), winner of the 1996 "Ciutat d'Olot" Prize 1996; Angelina, winner of the Second "Mercè Rodoreda Ràdio M.R." Prize in 1997; Aurora, finalist for the "Vent de Port" Prize in 2000; Històries d'en Barcigol (Barcigol Stories), finalist for the "Cafè Baviera-FCB" Prize in 2002 and Entre dos Silencis (Between Two Silences – Baula-Edelvives, 2003).

Her published collections of poetry include Sant Jordi, un cant d'amor (St. George, a Love Song), winner of the 1995 "Sant Jordi de Vallcarca" Prize; El Mar de la vida (The Sea of Life), winner of the 2000 "Alba Estiu de Cunit" Prize; Per Àfrica (Through Africa), winner of the 2006 "Luz de Luna d'Hospitalet" Poetry Prize. She sometimes serves as a jury member in literary competitions for short stories, narrative works and poetry.

She has participated actively in several cultural events as a speaker and presenter, among them the I Seminario de Ciencias Sociales y Humanas (First Seminar of Social and Human Sciences, ICCI, Barcelona 2001); II Jornades d'estudi de la vida i obra de Caterina Albert (Second Workshop on the Life and Work of Caterina Albert), L'Escala 2001; "Tolerance and Peace in the World", Comenius Programme, Germany, 2004); Saló del Llibre (Book Fair), Barcelona, 2006.

She is a member of Associació d'Escriptors en Llengua Catalana (AELC, Association of Catalan Language Writers).
