Jesús Huguet

Jesús Huguet (Onda, 1944) is a poet, politician and publisher.

He studied Law, Philology, and Telecommunications, and has been a lecturer and coordinator of the Institute of Education Science “Valencian Linguistics” courses at the University of Valencia, and also guest lecturer at national and international universities. He was Director-General of Linguistic Policy (1991 – 1995) and member of the Corts Valencianes (legislative body of the Valencian Government) for the Socialist Party of the Valencia Region and the municipal area of Castelló (1995 – 1999). Since 2000 he has been a member of the Valencia Culture Council and also, since 2002, of the Council of Experts for Heraldry and Vexillology of the Generalitat (Government) of Valencia. He has been Secretary of the Valencia Culture Council since 2004.

In 1972 he received the Ausiàs March Prize for La processó de Kirk o no te n’ixques de la fila (1973) and has also published the collections of poems Els llibres d’Alb-Sebelaci (1983), Esmicolat calendari (2001), and Canastrell (2011, with music by Matilde Salvador). He has written essays and biographical works, among them Ibn al-Abbar, polític i escriptor àrab-valencià (1199-1260) (1990), Ibn al-Abbar: memòria a recobrar (1999), and Matilde: poble, dona, llengua (2000). He is also a columnist for several periodical publications including Destino, El Punt, and Serra d’Or as well as for dailies like Levante, Diario de Valencia, El Periódico de Catalunya and El País, among others.

He is a member of the Associació d’Escriptors en Llengua Catalana (AELC – Association of Catalan Language Writers).
