Maria de la Pau Janer (Palma, 1966) is a fiction writer. She has a doctorate in Catalan Philology from the University of the Balearic Islands where she now teaches. She has received prestigious awards for her books, for example the 1989 Andròmina Prize for L'hora dels eclipsis (The Hour of the Eclipses), the 1993 Sant Joan Prize for Màrmara (Marmara), the 1995 Carlemany Prize for Natura d'anguila (Nature of the Eel) the 1999 Ramon Llull Prize for Lola (Lola) and, in 2005, she was awarded the Planeta Prize for Pasiones romanas (Roman Passions). Her doctoral thesis, Les rondalles del cicle de l'espòs transformat: Pervivència en la Literatura Catalana de Tradició Oral (Stories of the Transformed Spouse. Survival in Catalan Literature of the Oral Tradition), has been published in Germany. She has written several television scripts and has also presented radio and television programmes.

She is a member of the Associació d'Escriptors en Llengua Catalana (Association of Catalan Language Writers).
