Àlex Susanna (Barcelona, 1957 - Gelida, 2024), a writer, cultural manager, publisher, and translator, was eminent both for his own literary work and his work as head of cultural institutions.

As an author, he is well known for his poetry and fiction. He published fifteen collections of poems, notable amongst which are Les anelles dels anys (1986), Angles morts (2007), and Filtracions (2016). His diaries, also outstanding, include the titles Quadern venecià (1989), Paisatge amb figures (2019), and La dansa dels dies (2024). Furthermore, he translated, from English and French, works by such authors as T. S. Eliot, Paul Valéry, Molière, and W. C. Williams.

He taught Catalan Literature at the Rovira i Virgili University (1982-1992), was a founder and director of Columna Edicions (1985-1999), and also headed cultural institutions, among them the La Caixa Foundation (2004-2009), the Ramon Llull Institute (2013-2014), and the Catalan Agency for Cultural Heritage (2016-2017).

His books, several of which received literary awards, have been translated into English, French, Hebrew, and Portuguese.

He was a member of the Associació d’Escriptors en Llengua Catalana (AELC – Association of Catalan Language Writers).
