Caterina Valriu (Inca, 1960), a philologist and writer has a PhD in History from the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB). She is author of some fifteen books for children and young people, and more than a hundred studies on oral literature and popular culture, especially about the Balearic Islands, for which she has received several essay prizes.

Moreover, with the pseudonym Catalina Contaconte, she tells stories, fables, and legends to children, young people, and adults around the Catalan-speaking lands and, since 1990, she has been a tenured lecturer at the UIB, where she teaches Catalan Literature.

She is a member of the Associació d’Escriptors en Llengua Catalana (AELC – Association of Catalan Language Writers).
