Maria Perpinyà i Sais (Verges, 6 December 1901 - Banyoles, 6 July 1994) was a poet, short story writer, journalist, and translator.

After spending her childhood and early years of adulthood in the town of her birth, from which she sent and published some poems in several Catalan publications, she was able to move to Barcelona in 1928 to become an editor at the daily El Matí, whereupon she began participating in the city’s lively literary and intellectual circles. She wrote for several publications, among them La Veu de Catalunya, La Paraula Cristiana, La Revista, La Nova Revista, La Nau, and D’Ací i d’Allà. Her main interest was poetry but, guided by her educational and moral convictions, she also published stories for children in the pages of the children’s supplements of El Matí and in the short story collection El follet sentimental (1930). Moreover, she translated poetry from French, as well as the books Les aventures de Polzet: el darrer nan del bosc, by Claude Roen (1929), and Remordiment, de Jeanne de Coulomb (1930). Perpinyà became a prominent figure in Catalan intelectual circles during the years of the Republic. As a member of the Associació Protectora de l’Ensenyança Catalana (Association for the Protection of Catalan Teaching), she was a regular speaker on Catalan nationalist and women’s themes. In 1931, she became a member of the Board of Directors of Acció Femenina, of which Carme Karr was president.

As a poet, she published the collections Poemes (1931) and Terra de vent (1936), both of them notable for their lyricism, musicality, elegiac tone, as well as a conception of nature that is appreciably marked by the early twentieth-century, anti-Modernist movement of Noucentism. The outbreak of the Civil War and establishment of the Franco dictatorship interrupted her career as a writer. Although she returned to Verges in the mid-1950s to resume her literary work, much of it remains unpublished.
