Joan Garí was born in Borriana (La Plana) in 1965.

His first incursion into the world of literature was through the essay and among his published works in this domain are El que cal saber sobre el valencià (1991), La conversación mural (1995), Un cristall habitat (1999), Un ofici del segle (2000), the essay on gastronomy La memòria del sabor (2015) and L'única passió noble (2016), awarded the Ciutat de Benicarló and the Crítica dels Escriptors Valencians Prizes. With the diary Les hores fecundes (2002) he published his first narrative work, which was followed by the novels On dormen les estrelles (2005), La balena blanca (2007) and El balneari (2013). He has also published the collections of poems Poema d'amor en dos temps (1999), Física dels límits (2001) and En un món sense normes (2023). As a travel writer he is author of Història d'Amèrica (2011) and Viatge pel meu país (2012).

Among his journalistic writings one should highlight his fruitful collaboration with the ceased newspaper Público (2007-2012) and his current blogs for the newspapers Ara and El País. He also writes as a literary critic for the weekly El Temps and, in particular, in his blog Ofici de lector (The Reader's Profession).

Garí is a membrer of Associació d'Escriptors en Llengua Catalana (AELC, Association of Catalan Language Writers).
