Vicent Usó i Mezquita (Vila-real, 1963) writes fictional works, although he has also worked in other areas like journalism, scriptwriting, and translation.
Notable among his published novels are La mirada de Nicodemus, La taverna del Cau de la Lluna, L’herència del vent del sud, Crònica de la devastació, and Les ales enceses. He has received several literary awards, including the 2001 Fiter i Rossell Prize in the Principality of Andorra, and the Andròmina Prize for Fiction in the October Awards, and in 2004 and 2008, he was a finalist for the prestigious Sant Jordi (St George) Prize for the Novel. He has also been awarded the Critics Prize for Valencian Writers, and the Interuniversity Institute of Valencian Philology Critics Prize. In 2015 his book Les veus i la boira received the Valencia Award for Fiction, and the same year his book for young people La retratista d’ànimes won the Vila de Catarroja Benvingut Oliver Prize for Young People’s Fiction. In 2018, he published El paradís a les fosques, which was awarded the Enric Valor Prize for the Novel.
He is a member of the Associació d’Escriptors en Llengua Catalana (Association of Catalan Language Writers – AELC).
