English

Joan Vinyoli (Barcelona, 1914 - 1984) was a poet whose considerable output was inseparable from the circumstances of his life, the sense of which he questioned from the standpoint of the enigma of faith. He was moved to write by Rilkeís statement, "Poetry is not a matter of feelings but of experience". He received the Ossa Menor Prize in 1951 with his collection Les hores retrobades (Rediscovered Hours). He received critical acclaim with his collection entitled Tot Ès ara i res (It is All Now and Nothing,1970), after which he published regularly. His final collection Passeig d'aniversari (Birthday Stroll, 1984) received numerous awards, amongst which were those of the Generalitat (Autonomous Government) of Catalonia Prize, the City of Barcelona Prize and the National Prize for Literature. His translations of Rilke were published in Versions de Rilke (1984) and Noves versions de Rilke (New Versions of Rilke, 1985). He was a member of the Associació d'Escriptors en Llengua Catalana (Association of Catalan Language Writers).
