Maluy Benet

Maluy Benet (València, 1946), a photographer, writer, and certified translator, graduated from the Faculty of Education at the University of Valencia and, together with other teachers, established the cooperative school Les Carolines de Picassent. She has published several school textbooks in Catalan.

Moreover, she has published fictional works including La cuscusera farcida (1990, winner of the Alcúdia Crime Novel Award), Hostes (1999), and Timocràcia (2023), the novel for young children Els visitants de Mont-virolat (1995) and, for young people, the novels L’últim paradís (2001) and Un café sol (2014). In her book Un passeig sentimental per l’Escola les Carolines (1998), which is coauthored by Chon García-Sala, with illustrations by Ortifus, she recalls her experience as a teacher at this school.

She also works as a certified translator at the Office of the Valencian Ministry for Culture and Education, and as secretary of the Junta Qualificador de Coneixements (Valencian Language Examination Board) of the Generalitat (Government) of Valencia.

Her work as a photographer has been shown in the exhibition “Presències” in venues around the region of Valencia, and she has also exhibited a series of watercolours of animals and plants titled “Viridarium” in the Women’s Library of Valencia.

She is an honorary member of the Associació d’Escriptors en Llengua Catalana (AELC – Association of Catalan Language Writers).
