Domènec Corbella i Llobet (Vallfogona de Riucorb, 1946), a visual artist, teacher and essayist, studied at La Llotja School of Art and Design in Barcelona, at the International University of Art in Florence, and the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Barcelona, where he obtained a PhD and is currently emeritus professor. He founded the Cognitive Painting Laboratory, is a researcher at the Water Research Institute, and at the Research Institute in Art, Design, and Society at the University of Porto, and has also been a guest lecturer at universities in Europe, Asia, and Latin America.

His career as an artist began in the early 1970s and has evolved through several stages—existentialist, formalist, expressionist, Mediterranean, intimist, essential, Zen, and Taoist—which reflect a permanent intimate and spiritual quest. In recent years his work, besides being shown in numerous galleries and museums in Catalonia and Europe, as well as in China and Taiwan, has been acquired for public and private international collections.

Among the books on art and creation that Corbella has published are Entendre Miró, his PhD thesis (published by Edicions de la Universitat de Barcelona in 1993, and also translated into Chinese), Des del cor de la pintura (Edicions de la Universitat de Barcelona, 2012), Vallis fecunda (Edicions de la Universitat de Barcelona, 1917), and Pintura: ànima i pensament (Edicions Cossetània, 2025). He also contributes in his domain by popularising artistic and heritage thought with articles published in a variety of cultural magazines. 

Moreover, his artistic work has been analysed in two publications: Corbella: de la pintura existencial a l’essencial (Viena Edicions, 2006) and Pels camins mudables de la pintura (Edicions de la Universitat de Barcelona, 2011).

In 2024, the Conca de Barberà Studies Centre paid homage to Domènec Corbella i Llobet in issue 42 of its annual publication Aplec de Treballs.

He is an honorary member of the Associació d’Escriptors en Llengua Catalana (Association of Catalan Language Writers – AELC).
