Jaume Creus

English

Jaume Creus (1950) is a writer, translator, poet, musicologist and linguist. With his knowledge of several languages – French, Italian, German, Russian, English and Czech – Jaume Creus has worked in almost all the artistic areas, although mainly focussing on poetry and music.

At the age of 25, he published the first of several collections of poems, La poesia, és a dir, la follia (Poetry, Which Is to Say Madness), which was co-authored by Vicenç Altaió, and has continued to write poetry ever since. In 1994, he received the Vicent Andrés Estellés Prize for his collection entitled Eros d'encesa fletxa (Eros of Burning Arrow), the tone of which is markedly erotic. In 1978 he published a collection of short stories called Entre una pell i l'altra, l'horitzó (Between One Skin and the Other, the Horizon), which includes the story 'Sortida a mar' (Exit at Sea), winner in 1977 of the Recull Prize.

Over the years, apart from his poems and short stories, he has written articles —about music or otherwise— for a number of publications such as Serra d'Or, El Correo Catalán and Avui.

As a lover of classical music and opera, Jaume Creus has translated a large number of operas into Catalan, while also writing articles on music for different publications, for example Gran Enciclopèdia de la Música (The Great Encyclopaedia of Music) or for the Liceu Opera House. He has written a number of scripts, for example that of the film version of Solitud (Solitude) by Víctor Català, and he continues to translate and to work as a dubbing director for the Catalan television channel, TV3.

He is literary director of the publishing house La Guineu, for which he translates works from German, Czech, Russian and French and he occasionally organises poetry recitals. He is founder and director of the Collbató Poetry Festival, PACEM.

Jaume Creus is a member of AELC (Association of Catalan Language Writers)
