Josep Vallverdú

Josep Vallverdú (Lleida, 1923), Bachelors Degree in Classical Filology. Professor, novelist, translator, playwright and essay writer, made his name through his awards in children's and teenager's literature as well as the sheer quantity of his work. One could emphasize names like Trampa sota les aigües (1965), awarded with the Joaquim Ruyra in 1963, Rovelló (1969) awarded with the Folch i Torres in 1968 and with the CCEI in 1970, En Roc drapaire (1971), awarded with the Folch i Torres in 1970, En Mir, l'esquirol, which entered the Andersen awards Honor's List in 1980, or L'alcalde Ferrovell, awarded as Best Teenager's Literature Work by the Generalitat in 1981. In 1995 La Galera Editorial began the "Biblioteca Vallverdú" collection, with his complete children's and teenager's literature, divided in 14 volumes.

He also translated works by Chesterton, T. Elliot, Graham Greene, Jean Piaget, Jack London, Martin Luther King, Stevenson and Oscar Wilde, among others. Some of his work has been translated into Spanish, Basque, French, Italian and Russian. He was honored with the Creu de Sant Jordi de la Generalitat de Catalunya (1990) and with the Premi d'Honor de les Lletres Catalanes (2000).

He was honored with the Creu de Sant Jordi de la Generalitat de Catalunya (1990), and he received the awards Premi d'Honor de les Lletres Catalanes (2000) and Premi Jaume Fuster dels Escriptors en Llengua Catalana (2012). Catalana (Children's and Teenager's Catalan Literature Congress), and since 2004 he has been a Doctor Honoris Causa by the Universitat de Lleida.

He is a Honorary Member of Associació d'Escriptors en Llengua Catalana (AELC, Association of Catalan Language Writers).
