Jordi Buch Oliver

English

Jordi Buch Oliver was born in Mataró (el Maresme – Barcelona) in 1957.

He presently lives in Mataró and works full-time as a writer (with stories published in the United States, Israel, Italy and Argentina). At thirteen years of age he began to study guitar and piano at the Liceu in Barcelona and, at twenty-eight, he wrote his first novel Carla Tucci, which was a finalist for a prize in Madrid. He subsequently worked as a journalist, in radio with Cadena 13 and also with the written press, namely Correu Catalán and Avui. After twenty years of having forsaken literature for music, he began to write again in 2003 and, since then, has been awarded some fifteen prizes, including the Víctor Mora Prize, the Emili Teixidor Prize and the Joan Arús Prize for the Novel. He has also been awarded international prizes in Madrid, Sardinia and Argentina.

He has worked with a wide range of genres in prose, from the short story with Històries d’un piano desafinat (Tales of an Out-of-tune Piano), Coses del lloro (Parrot Things), Taxi plujós (Rainy Taxi) and L’enterrament del senyor baró (The Burial of His Excellency the Baron), through to the novel: Per les vores de dues pells (Along the Edges of Two Skins), and A trenc d’alba (At Daybreak). He is a lover of the Mediterranean, of humour and of eroticism and his books are written in a free and simple style, which makes his characters very accessible. It has been remarked of his work, “You describe things as they are and it makes you laugh even if you don’t want to” (la Busca Edicions, Barcelona).

He is a member of AELC (Association of Catalan Language Writers).
