Maria Català

English

Maria Català (Mataró, Maresme, 1949) combined literature with her work as a primary school teacher until she retired.

In 2002 she published her first novel On reposen els somnis (Where Dreams Repose) and, three years later, El alcalde de la Malena (The Mayor of Malena), which is co-authored with Antonio Sánchez Rueda. In her next novel, Urpes de seda (Silken Claws, 2011) she recreated the atmosphere of the old textile colonies and the streets and bourgeoisie of Barcelona. In 2014 she published a disturbing, gripping novel titled A les fosques (In the Dark) about the mysterious disappearance of an adolescent girl. Four years later she published her fifth novel, Els amors fan l'amor (2018).

Maria Català is an honorary member of the Associació d’Escriptors en Llengua Catalana (AELC – Association of Catalan Language Writers).
