Carme Montoriol (Barcelona, 1893 – 1966). Writer and Translator.

From an early age she was interested in music and literature. In 1928 she published the Catalan translation of all the Sonets by W. Shakespeare, a work which obtained her great recognition. She is also the author of theatre plays such as L'abisme (1933), L'huracà (1935), and Avarícia (1936), which display modern language and deal with unconventional topics. They were performed between 1930 and 1936, and represented an attempt to renovate the Catalan scene. She published the novel Teresa o la vida amorosa d'una dona (1932) and the short narrative compilation Diumenge de juliol (1936). All of her poetic work remains unpublished.

She was of feminist convictions, highlighted in her work as lecturer and as president of the cultural female institution Lyceum Club of Barcelona, from where she promoted the improvement of the female education and gender equality during the Barcelona and Catalonia pre civil war period.
